Choosing the perfect holiday destination can feel overwhelming. With so many beautiful
places to visit, it can be difficult to know which one will truly work for you and your family.
So many things to consider… Where to go? Which accommodation type to choose? What
time of year gets the best weather? What amenities are there?
As a mum of two boys and an independent travel agent, I often remind clients that the best
holidays aren’t necessarily the most exotic or far-flung – they are the ones that suit your
children’s ages, your family’s needs, covers what you are aiming to get out of your holiday,
and allows everyone to relax and enjoy the experience.
The truth is, there’s no single perfect destination. It is about finding the right destination for
you. Here are a few important things to consider when planning your next getaway…

Think About Travel Time
The length of your journey can have a big impact on your overall travel experience. For a
quick break or a long weekend, destinations with shorter flight times are often the best
option, allowing you to spend more time enjoying your holiday and less time travelling.
For longer holidays, many travellers are happy to go further afield in exchange for a
completely different culture, climate or experience. Thinking about how much time you want
to spend travelling can help narrow down your options and make the decision much easier.
Choose Accommodation That Suits Your Travel Style
Accommodation plays a huge role in shaping your holiday experience. Some travellers love
the convenience and relaxation of an all-inclusive resort, while others prefer boutique hotels,
self-catering apartments or private villas that offer more flexibility and independence.
Couples may look for romantic settings and adults-only hotels, while families might prioritise
extra space, kids’ facilities and entertainment.
The key is choosing accommodation that complements the type of holiday you want to have.
Always be upfront and open about what you trying to obtain from your trip.
Consider Local Facilities and Accessibility
While we all hope for a smooth and relaxing holiday, it’s always wise to consider practical
aspects too. Having access to good local facilities such as medical centres, pharmacies,
transport links and supermarkets can make a big difference, if you need them during your
stay.
Popular holiday destinations are usually well-equipped for visitors, but it’s always reassuring
to know that essential services are close by. Being prepared removes the stress should
situations arise and you need to utilise the local facilities.
Look at the Climate and Time of Year
Weather can play a big role in how much you enjoy your trip. Some destinations are perfect
during certain seasons but may be extremely hot, rainy or quiet at other times of the year.
Thinking about the type of weather you enjoy and what you are hoping for, whether that’s
sunshine by the beach, cooler temperatures for sightseeing, or snowy mountain landscapes,
will help guide your destination choice. Checking seasonal climates can also help you avoid
peak crowds or extreme temperatures.
Think About the Experiences You Want
Every traveller looks for something slightly different from their holiday.
Some people want pure relaxation on a beautiful beach, while others want culture, food,
adventure or vibrant nightlife.
Consider what you want the highlight of your trip to be. Is it exploring historic towns,
discovering incredible food, enjoying outdoor adventures, or simply switching off by the pool
with a book? Choosing a destination that offers the experiences you value most will ensure
your holiday feels truly rewarding.
Ultimately, the perfect holiday destination is one that reflects your interests, pace and travel
style. With so many wonderful places to choose from, a little thoughtful planning can turn a
good trip into an unforgettable one.
If you’re unsure where to start, that’s where expert guidance can help. As an
independent travel agent, I work closely with clients to understand what they want from
their holiday and help them find destinations that suit them perfectly.

My first question will always be, what are you hoping to gain from your trip?
