Family holidays should be a chance for everyone to relax, explore and enjoy time together –

and choosing the right destination makes all the difference.

As a mum of two boys and an independent travel agent, I’m always looking for places that

balance beautiful surroundings with family-friendly facilities. In Europe, there are so many

destinations that are perfect for travelling with young children, offering short flight times,

safe beaches and plenty to keep little ones entertained.

Here are five fantastic family-friendly destinations in Europe that I love to recommend to

families looking for a break in the sunshine.

1. Cala’N Bosch, Menorca

Calan Bosch in Menorca is one of my favourite family destinations and somewhere I’ve

personally travelled with my own children. The resort is compact, relaxed and incredibly

family-friendly, making it perfect for parents travelling with younger kids.

The marina is the heart of the resort, lined with restaurants and ice cream parlours, creating a

lovely atmosphere in the evenings without feeling overwhelming. The nearby beach is ideal

for families, with soft sand and shallow water that’s perfect for paddling and swimming.

Everything is within easy walking distance, which makes holiday life much simpler when

you’re travelling with little ones. Our accommodation choice was situated directly on the

beachfront, so drop me a message for more details.

2. Cala d'Or, Majorca

Cala d'Or is another fantastic option for families. Known for its small coves and turquoise

waters, this resort offers a slightly more traditional and charming feel compared to some of

the larger Majorcan resorts.

The beaches here are sheltered and calm, making them ideal for younger children. The town

itself is also very family-friendly, with pedestrianised areas, relaxed restaurants and plenty of

ice cream stops along the way. Boat trips from the marina are a great activity for families

wanting to explore the coastline while keeping children entertained.

3. Crete, Greece

If you’re looking for a Greek island that works brilliantly for families, Crete is a fantastic

choice. It’s one of the largest Greek islands, which means there is plenty of variety when it

comes to accommodation, beaches and activities.

Many of the resorts here cater exceptionally well for families, with large hotels offering kids’

clubs, waterparks and family suites. The beaches are beautiful, and there are also plenty of

opportunities for family adventures such as boat trips, waterparks and exploring traditional

villages. The relaxed Greek hospitality also makes families feel very welcome.

4. The Algarve, Portugal

The Algarve is one of Europe’s most reliable family holiday destinations. With its golden

beaches, warm weather and short flight time from the UK, it’s easy to see why families return

year after year.

Resorts such as Lagos, Albufeira and Vilamoura offer excellent family accommodation

options, from resorts with kids’ clubs to spacious villas. The beaches are stunning, and there

are plenty of child-friendly activities including boat trips, waterparks and dolphin-watching

tours. It’s also a great destination for families who want a mix of relaxation and adventure.

5.Lake Como, Italy

For families looking for a destination that combines scenery, culture and a slower pace of

travel, Lake Como is a beautiful option. I’ve personally stayed in Varenna, a charming

lakeside town perfectly positioned close to both Bellagio and Menaggio, which are easily

reached by ferry.

Children love travelling between the towns by boat, which instantly turns getting around into

part of the adventure. The colourful buildings, lakeside promenades and relaxed piazzas make

it an easy place to explore as a family. Even simple moments like stopping for pizza or gelato

while overlooking the lake become special holiday memories.

Travelling with children doesn’t mean compromising on beautiful destinations. With the right

location, a family holiday can be relaxing for parents while still packed with fun and

adventure for little travellers. Drop me a message if you’re in need of accommodation

recommendations.
